When I was four years old, I taught myself how to sew by pillaging through my mom’s sewing basket because I was dissatisfied with my Barbie’s wardrobe and decided that I’d be better at designing my own. Ever since, I’ve been on a curiosity-led quest to create and design my own world. I was crafty before crafty was cool, and I was up-cycling long before there was a term for such a thing. I’ve also been a proponent of the body positive movement since before there was a movement, and I pride myself on being unique and not giving a shit what other people think.
Currently I’m in my dirty thirties and I live in Hartford, CT with my husband, teenager, toddler, and ginger cat. I was born in New Orleans, LA and grew up in Fort Wayne, IN, but Connecticut has been my home since the mid-1990s. The East Coast inspired a love of antiquity in me, and I’ve become somewhat of an amateur historian over the last couple decades. It’s also inspired a love for food and I’ve been teaching myself how to roast, julienne, bake, braise, chiffonade, and sauté my way through the kitchen since I was twelve. I tend to be a bit particular when it comes to eating (read: picky!) and as such I’ve been on a quest for The Perfect Bite for like my entire life.
I also love to sew, knit, write, embroider, paper craft, sculpt, and generally make stuff. I love dresses & Converse All-Stars, anything chocolate, old photobooths, Star Wars, all things vintage & kitsch, the color pink, and of course cats! I am absolutely obsessed with lip balm and you will rarely find I am without one or two (or four) different kinds on my person at any given time. I’m also a total movie snob and I’m pretty sure I have better taste in on-screen entertainment than anyone else in the world lol. I listen to a lot of Otis Redding and Ella Fitzgerald, but I also love some good ol’ punk rock, metal, jazz, soul, and classical as well. I have a pretty good sense of humour and a fantastic potty mouth – so be forewarned if you don’t like sarcasm and profanity.
After more than 30 years of tinkering and tweaking and making, I decided it was high time to share some of my ideas with a broader audience. I’m excited (and a little nervous,) to see what happens with this little blog. And so…here goes!
